Title Description

Context

Lack of good stakeholder relationship management throughout the Planning for Success in the Front End process may result in incomplete value, cost and/or risk trade-offs being made. Good stakeholder relationship management should help opportunity teams to make transparent value, cost and risk trade-offs in response to stakeholder requirements.

Therefore, this control is needed to proactively manage the risk of stakeholders insisting on changes to scope post Decision Gate 3 (DG3), with resulting cost and schedule escalation.

Activity

Ensure that stakeholder requirements are considered as decision criteria for concept selection. Provide transparency on the trade-offs in order to develop stakeholder influencing strategies for managing misalignment on the preferred concept.

Purpose

Concept selection is done on the basis of a complete understanding of value drivers and the needs of key stakeholders for the opportunity.

To ensure that the selected concept is supported by partners, governments and communities.

Requirements from other Standards

  • Stakeholder management is mandated through the Opportunity Realisation Standards (ORS).
  • All opportunities shall have a process in place to identify stakeholders, their needs and expectations, map their positions against the risks and have plans in place for engaging stakeholders and incorporating this information into decision making.
